Thank you to Julie Flaherty of Tufts Now for covering the latest TARC exhibit: Tufts University: 175 Years of Innovation. The exhibit involved more than a year of work and collaboration between TARC staff, Tufts University Art Galleries, University Communications and Marketing, and leadership of all schools at Tufts. Installations are available for viewing in the main entrance to Tisch Library and, for University staff and leadership, in the Coolidge Room in Ballou Hall. A digital version of the exhibit is available via TARC’s digital exhibit platform at exhibits.tufts.edu.

The exhibit showcases dozens of examples of innovations developed by Tufts students, faculty, staff, and alumni. From artificial heart pumps to performing arts, evidence of Tufts’ impact on the wider world can be found in many places – some of them little known or unexpected - as this exhibit demonstrates.

The installation kicks off a year of events and activities celebrating Tufts’ 175th year of existence culminating in celebrations on all Tufts campuses in April 2027. Archivists in TARC are working on a number of projects related to the anniversary beyond the exhibit, including a revamped and expanded version of the Concise Encyclopedia of Tufts History, collaborations with University Communications and Marketing on social media posts and Tufts history quizzes, research for Tufts history features in Tufts Now, historical campus tours, and some surprises this coming spring.
